Common Myths About Ceramic Coatings
Yes, coatings are long-lasting and durable, but that doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want with your vehicle and think the coating will protect it.
It has its limitations and it’s important to understand the limitations of what the ceramic coating can handle. Too many times we see customers overthink the protection aspect of the coating and are then disappointed when they see swirls or etchings in the paintwork.
The coating will not make your paint scratch-proof. When we say the coating will resist light swirls and scratches, we genuinely mean very light swirls and scratches that might be induced when properly washing or drying the vehicle.
If you drag a dry and dirty wash mitt across the paint, you will scratch the paint. If you drag your hand or leg across the paint, you will scratch it.
The coating will not protect your paint from rock chips. The only real option that can protect your paint from rock chips will be paint protection film (PPF).
No matter how many layers you apply of any protection, whether it’s wax or ceramic coating, it cannot stop the impact of a rock hitting your vehicle.
The coating requires maintenance to prolong the durability. Just like many other things in life, if you don’t care for the coating, it will degrade overtime and not last it’s intended lifespan.
You have to properly dry, and boost the coating for maximum durability. A coating that was meant to last for 6 years can start to break down at year 3 if not cared for properly.

Ceramic Coatings FAQ's
Do you have a shop?
Yes! We offer all our paint correction and ceramic coating services at our Nexgen Auto Pros shop located in Odessa Texas. We're across the street from Lush Nails & Bar. Depending on the level of work, it can take 1-3 days to complete the service.
Can I wash my car after the coating is installed?
Once the coating is applied, the vehicle should not get wet for the first 48 hours so it can fully cure. After that, we advise our customers to not wash their vehicle for the first two weeks.
Can the ceramic coating replace my clear coat?
If your paint is chipping and fading due to clear coat failure, the only option to fix that is a repaint. A ceramic coating will not help.
Can I just get the coating installed without paint correction?
We do not apply ceramic coatings to vehicles that have not gone through the proper prep and correction as you will not reap the benefits of a coating without it.
Nexgen Auto Pros Ceramic Coating Expectation Agreement
1. Protection
Ceramic coating is distinct from paint protection film and does not offer protection against rock chips or significant scratch prevention. Beware of exaggerated claims by some installers about the level of protection it provides. At Nexgen Auto Pros, we advise taking such claims with caution.
Ceramic coating primarily serves to facilitate easy clean-up, provide UV protection, and more. It should not be relied upon as a shield against rock chips or other paint hazards. Swift action is necessary for issues like bird droppings, bug residue, and hard water spots to prevent paint damage.
2. Paint Enhancement/Correction
Our ceramic coating packages do not include paint correction in their pricing, regardless of your vehicle's condition. Paint correction is not automatically included, and you may opt to add it separately.
Contrary to common belief, paint correction is not obligatory prior to ceramic coating. We aim to avoid correction while ensuring your vehicle looks fantastic. We will discuss your paint condition and any specific concerns you may have. We are cautious about conducting correction when you are content with your paint's appearance. Recommendations can be provided upon request.
3. Factory Paint
Recent body or paint work on a vehicle may affect the application of ceramic coating. The curing methods of the paint and the coating can disrupt the paint's off-gassing process and lead to issues like solvent popping. This concern does not apply to OEM/factory paint.
Please inform us of any recent body or paint work in the last 90 days, to the best of your knowledge. We strive to identify such touch-ups before proceeding.
4. Minor Issues
As we delve deeper into the correction and preparation process, minor issues may come to light. We will maintain continuous communication with the client during the process. Although we previously used pre-inspection forms, they did not always reveal problem areas due to vehicle dirtiness or outdoor lighting conditions.
Our goal is transparency regarding any damage we may encounter, including factory/OEM paint. Imperfections like runs, nibs, or debris under the clear coat can exist in factory paint.
5. Perfection (or Lack Thereof)
Our objective is to enhance your vehicle's appearance while considering the longevity of your clear coat and paint. Please understand that not all scratches can be removed without compromising the clearcoat. Perfect paint, like achieving a flawless paint protection film installation, is rare. We strive for an exceptional finish while considering potential long-term issues.
6. Automatic Car Washes
The use of brush automatic car washes and waxing the vehicle after ceramic coating can adversely affect its longevity and performance. Brushed washes are likely to cause paint scratches.
Neither Nexgen Auto Pros nor any ceramic coating company can warranty issues arising from automatic car washes.
7. Washing Your Car
Ceramic coating does not render your car self-cleaning. Applying ceramic coating is a wise choice for enhancing gloss, providing UV protection, and simplifying cleaning, such as the removal of bug residue. However, your car will still get dirty, and your wheels will gather brake dust. While ceramic coating facilitates the removal of contaminants, it does not eliminate the need for regular cleaning. Water spots, bug residue, bird droppings, tar, acid, tree sap, etc., can still harm your paint and should be promptly addressed or avoided.
8. Annual Inspections and Coating Maintenance
Coatings lasting one year or more require annual inspections for the manufacturer's warranty. Many coating issues, such as clogging due to excessive dirt, can be resolved with a thorough decontamination wash using iron and fallout remover. Contact us for instructions.
We offer in-house warranties for all our coatings, but if you move or plan to move, you must ensure the continuation of annual inspections. We are also pleased to inspect your car once a year (or more frequently, if desired) to reapply the windshield coating, perform an exterior detail, and apply a ceramic "topper" for $200. This topper refreshes your coating. You can also use ceramic quick detail spray (contact us for recommendations) between maintenance appointments. Every other year, we offer the same maintenance appointment to refresh your wheel faces coating for $300, including all the services mentioned above.
